DUMB! Altmill Assembly - Forgot Drag Chain ๐Ÿ˜ž

Dumb mistake. Just attached the Z-Axis and put the motors on when I realized I forgot to get the drag chain out of the X-axis assembly.

Is there a simple way to get it out without pulling both gantry plates- Can I remove one side only if I support the X-axis?

Also- itโ€™s been about 12 hours. Is the factory Loctite still good?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I see no reason why this should not work.

Canโ€™t answer the locktite issue but I personally wouldnโ€™t worry too much about that.

I was able to do this quite easily. Posting if anyone else makes my mistake.

  1. Remove x-axis motor
  2. Remove 2 bottom M6-35mm screws from each side of gantry plate (4 total)
  3. Loosen the 2 top M6-35mm screws at the top on each side
  4. Rotate the X-axis assembly backward using the top M6-35mm screw as the rotation point

This gave me plenty of room to remove the drag chains.

Reverse order to re-assemble.

The loctite issue is kinda dependant on what loctite has been used, but the tread locking glues Iโ€™ve used are pretty much for one time use only (after curing)

I believe the blue loctite to be the 243 type. (I have loads of it in my shop and use it for sealing treaded water piping besides locking bolts) it cures only when no longer in contact with the atmosphere and when dislodges, it cracks, leaving the seal broken.

Hereโ€™s the spec sheet for loctite 243.
