Anyone running a makita on an altmill have a dust shoe working?
Im thinking on waiting for a bit to see how the new sienci ATC looks when it comes out before buying a proper spindle, in the meantime would love to figure something out for my makita, the dust is a little crazy!
Going with my experience using a makita without dust shoe, you are either milling MDF or doing a lot of fine ball nose relief work. Beyond that, I mostly see chips flying. I do have the dust shoe but it’s collecting… chips.
There are some instances I am in need of some extraction when using a finer endmill for cutout work and I fear the dust compacting inside the cut might put too much strain on the tiny mills. (Mainly while using wallnut from my garden that keeps being a wee more moist than it should be.) I will hold a hose close to the mill by hand.
This however isn’t helping much, I guess. If I needed an adapter, I would perty much create a holder for the hose and have it hover around the mill thinking that any dust extraction is better than none. I wouldn’t go in to deep knowing a well designed system is around the corner.
Even to collect as many chips as possible would be fine by me at this point eddy!I do have a 3d printer and a pretty beefy 2.5” shop vac so going to give that a go for the time being!
The Sweepy from Carbide 3D works great. Easy to adjust, bottom is magnetic & easy to remove for bit changes, and has fittings for different hose sizes.
