Feeds and speeds for my new Altmill

I’ve been running a little Shark. Now with my new Altmill, how much can I increase the feed rate? I’ve used maybe 100 inches per minute on my Shark. How much faster will the Altmill run? Thank you for input.

@Rdaigneault You may want to read all the Altmill specs. As for feed rate, they say, " Max cutting speed: 15000 mm/min (590.5 ipm) in X and Y, 6000 mm/min (236.2 ipm) in Z"

Thanks for the reply. I was wanted to know can I increase the ipm significantly with the same bit but on the Altmill. So if was was running 100 ipm on the Shark, can I now run that same bit on the same tool path at 150-200?

@Rdaigneault The important part of the equation is chip load. You might want to take the time to learn about it. The Altmill is capable of 590 IPM. A 1/4" end mill will handle that, given the appropriate rpm setting. Feed rate and speed are tied togther. It’s not as simple as saying that you can run an end mill at twice the rate that you could run it on your Shark.

That’s good to know. I’ve read about chip load and looked at charts but hadn’t paid it much heed. I will now. thanks for the advice.
