Gcontrol panel black screen

I got mine up and running, thankfully it did start properly. However, I did notice something is rattling around inside as I was mounting it. Sounds like a screw came loose.

It did start up and is working, so hopefully it’s nothing that rear it’s head later on.

One other thing I’m a little bothered by, there are four screws holding the screen into the case that protrude out the back a little more than seems reasonable. I sometimes catch my hand on them as I’m steadying my hand to touch things as the buttons are a bit small for touch use. But I see they have a more touch friendly version of gSender coming.

Saw these screws as well - I assume they are for a mounting option from the manufacturer (like in-wall/in-dash). If you have or can get some cheap ear plugs, the simple foam-type, you could easily press/screw these on to at least reduce the chances of snagging on them.

Just thought I should follow up with a final thought on this thread… I got back to the panel today and must have been tired the other night when I flipped the switch to see if it was working…it did turn on like I said but I couldn’t connect. The reason I could not connect was because I had selected GRBL when I should have selected GRBLHAL because of the SLB. As soon as I changed that all was good in the world once again. Surfaced a board just to see if everything works and it did.
Also a few thoughts on the panel…
I mounted the arm back a bit on my table because I did not want it sticking out farther than the edge of my table so I originally thought the metal mount was a waste but I ended up putting the e-stop on it so I am using it for another purpose. I also did as the assembly video suggested and upped the size of the screen up to 150% to accomodate fat finger issues and that helped a bit-I do find touch sreens a bit less responsive at times but likely just my fingers not touching the screen properly. I also still have a mouse and additional screen attached because it seems to help with the way I set up things-not really needed though. I see the comment on the screws protruding out the back and while yes I agree it could be better I likely won’t bother hacking them off. That’s about it-thanks to Sienci for helping me through this hiccup with a new product in a timely fashion and I am happy with the gControl Panel to this point.

Thank you Sienci support! Gilberto in particular for reaching out today. The suggested fix appears to have worked and, at least for now, the gControl is up and running with all chassis/case screws tightened up.

I won’t post the details at this time as I think Sienci will want to address the individuals encountering this situation with their solution options but wanted to share that there is hope!

This is from Gilberto, our lead on all things gControl Panel…

We figured out what was causing the screen issue with some gControl panels.

After troubleshooting the returned units, we saw that the standoff motherboard spacer was hitting the screen board, causing the “short circuit” in the screen (I am sharing a couple images to clarify what I’m saying here).

As a solution, we replaced the spacer with a shorter one to avoid it happening again, but I also tested only cutting the tip of the screw using pliers, and it worked too.

What we can do is ask you to ship the unit back to us for a replacement (we are going to send a return label by email), or if you are comfortable fixing it as shown, you can, but if it doesn’t work, we can send the return label as informed and we more than welcome to send a replacement as soon as possible.

Thank you for understanding.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks to Gilberto’s permission and picture instructions I did the repair myself. Now that the Panel works I am very happy with its performance, clear picture and the touchscreen. It totally measures up to my expectations. Thank you for such a quick and successful solution!

Gah, mine had been working well.

However, I think this issue has finally caught me.

I was working on building an MFT top for a work table, so had a full 4x8 sheet of mdf on it. I had moved the sheet to get the back tile, so the sheet was sticking out the front.

I had to rotate the screen to the side so I could use it, grabbing the screen from each side and pulling to the side… black screen. Uh, dang it. It was in the middle of milling the dog holes, but kept on going like nothing happened.

Fortunately the machine keeps it’s brain after I had to plug it back into my iMac to finish the final toolpath. But I can’t stop touching the iMac screen and I am always surprised when nothing happens.

As I was responding above, saw the instructions on fixing, so I went ahead with it.

And while I was in there, I found what it was rattling around inside (as I mentioned above). An extra one of the little screws that are holding the case together.

But I also had been bothered by the wifi end cap was half in, half out. So I pulled that part apart as well. And found that of the three screws holding it to the chassis, one was tight, the middle one was quite loose, and the other end was not there. Now they’re not the same color as the black case screws, so I’m pretty sure the loose one wasn’t that one. But they are the same screw, so I used the extra to put that back in properly.

Bonus.

Now it’s all back together the way it was meant to be and working fine. Whew.
