I have run into to a problem with Gsender and would appreciated any help. Will use bullets to help me lay it out.
I am using Gsender to connect to a Sainsmart 4030 V2
All was working well on Saturday
Today I tried to surface a board using Gsender and the visualisation of this seemed to be reversed i.e. X axis was 150mm and Y was 210MM but on the visualiser it was the opposite.
When I tried to run the program the router would move and then go in the wrong Y direction triggering the limit switches.
.
I have tried resetting to default. I have closed Gsender and restarted and done the same with the router. But same issue. The only other thing I did was try and use the Autozero touch plate that was delivered today. Tried to use that but got alarm 4. Not sure if this is related.
Bit of an update. I used a different computer today and had no issues.
But the actual computer in the workshop is still showing the X and Y dimensions of the project reversed and the home point seems to be bottom left as opposed to top right.
I compared the Gsender settings between both computers and they look identical. But clearly something is up.
The only thing I have done differently on the workshop computer is used the Autozero touch plate which as I said didn’t work anyway i.e. I got alarm 4.
Would love to sort this. I assume I could just delete Gsender from the workshop computer and reinstall and see what happens?
There is a hidden folder on Windows that gSender stores its settings in, its C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\gSender. It may be worth a try to rename that folder to say gSenderOld. You could then copy the gSender folder from the working PC to the Shop PC and see if that fixes it.
If it doesn’t doesn’t fix it you can go back to the gSenderOld by deleting the gSender folder and renaming gSenderOld to gSender.
If you leave the folder missing then gSender will act as though it’s the ‘first run’ of gSender. So when I want to do a ‘complete’ reinstall, I delete the settings folder and then reinstall gSender. This of course means you have to setup everything again with the exception of the firmware settings because those are saved on your control board.
EDIT: If your on Macintosh or Linux and can’t find the folder, let us know, I’m sure somebody here knows where it is.
I found references to a ~/.sender_rc file but I’m having a hard time finding the other folder in the forums.
A general web search leads me to believe that ~/Library/ is like AppData on Windows. So ~/Library/gSender might be it. In case you don’t know ~ is shorthand for your home folder and it’s most likely a hidden folder.
I assume that whatever Mac uses for a file explorer probably has a search feature that might help you find it. I wouldn’t mess with anything that is not in your home folder or a sub-directory thereof. It’s also wise to rename instead of delete or use a program that has a ‘Waste Basket’ or similar to restore deleted files in case you mess up.
EDIT: I just had a thought to look inside the folder to find a file to search for. Try searching for gsender-0.5.6.json as that file is in my gSender folder. I think the version number in the file name is not directly related to gSender version as the second line in that file is “version”: “1.4.10”, for me.
Thank you. Appreciate the help. Will give it a go and then if I can’t sort it will just uninstall Gsender from the workshop and reinstall and see what happens.
