gSender pinned Wish List

Thanks for the feedback @reet! We’ve actually just gotten the slider working again on the gControl/ any other touch screen in the upcoming Edge 9 release that will soon be released as the main gSender as well, so keep an eye out and let us know what you think once it’s out  Regarding having the pause button stop the spindle, I’d recommend setting up ā€˜Program Events’ specifically for ā€˜Program Pause’ where if you put in ā€œM5ā€ it will stop your spindle if you pause the job. Make sur eif you do this that you also put ā€œM3ā€ into the ā€˜Program Resume’ so your spindle spins back up again: Additional Features - gSender Docs

Thanks for the info Chris! I have tried the M3/M5 program events previously, however the problem I had with that is that the Altmill will complete all the commands sent to it prior to pausing when using this feature, so all gcode operations highlighted in yellow (dark theme) need to be completed first, depending on the job like a surfacing with long straight passes it could take literal minutes before the machine pauses which is not ideal. I’ve since stuck with using the manual buttons next to the E-Stop which do work well for pausing, it would be great for this to work just as easily through the software as well.

Looking forward to the next release, I’m not going to jump on the Edge version just yet to ensure reliable operation. I don’t want to fix one problem while introducing two new ones. I’ll wait for the stable release.

Ok understood :+1: just to clarify, when you say you’re using the manual buttons for pausing are those currently stopping the spindle for you too, or are they just stopping the machine right away? Also could I ask what to use-case is that you’re wanting the spindle to stop while you’re paused?

Manual button is configured for ā€œpause and parkā€ via the firmware settings, which works exactly as expected, pausing the machine and spindle, and allowing a graceful resume that brings the spindle back up to speed, then resumes cutting.

The Altmill machine is set up at the local ā€œMen’s Shedā€ so it’s a shared shop space, the use case is simply to be able to step away from the machine for any reason (bathroom, coffee break, help a fellow shedder) and leave the machine in a safe operation. There is a rare occasion where one may need to adjust a clamp, or rotate the dust collection boot to the side to avoid a collision, leaving the spindle running through this operation is ā€œless safeā€, so it’s much preferred to have a pause operation that stops the spindle as well, and is immediate.

I’m hoping that its a simple task to initiate a ā€œpause and parkā€ via software, this would make my day
