I assume this is
aluminum and my longmill cant make these? Sorry for the dumb question.

Hi Greg,
I have a deep brown feeling this one is a cast. It does not seem to be carved and I feel it is too deep to be electro etched, though Iβm not sure if industrial etching might be able to do this economicaly without undercutting the etch.
Electrical etching is something Iβve touched a bit and it works, but it was a bit to messy for my taste to implement as a cnc adon. To do it by hand was too time consuming and boring. Using a bath like in this video gives a finish at the backside so ewhat simular to your sign so maybe there is a way to pull this off.
I experimented with a layer of laquer and lasering a inverted image through it. It worked, kindasortoff. So⦠you might be able to do this with your longmill without even running your mill, but it will take a lot of experimenting and goofing around to find the sweet spot.
I would suggest to start small, like this dude does.
@Clt49er IMHO, you could get that look using exterieur MDF and the proper paints. Just sayinβ.
That is cast in a green sand mold and then the surface (ie all the raised bits) is skim milled.
If not cast in a sand mold then it was cast in Petrobond but the pebbly surface of the background suggests a standard green sand mold to me.
