Maybe try the other software before messing with the machine. Easier to mess with that.
That’s good advice, Mike. Taking the router power cable out of the drag link is quick enough, though.
Wish me luck.
The LongMill certainly shouldn’t be unreliable as it’s been for you, your issues aren’t symptoms of any apparent problems that come to my mind, but rest assured we’ll find the solution and make sure you get up and running reliably. Andy will give you a call tomorrow, and we’ll get this sorted. Hang in there @gwilki
Thanks much for this, Chris. I am grateful for the support. This morning, soon, I’ll remove the router power cable from the drag chain. As this is somewhat intermittent, I won’t know for sure if I’ve found the issue until I run a few jobs. I know all about how difficult it can be to diagnose and solve intermittent issues, so I know also that this can take some time. In the meantime, I am trying to stay upbeat - not my normal.
Well, Chris, you will know how things went today, but I thought that I should report back to the group.
Andy and I exchanged a few emails today. As he instructed, I ran the sheep file from Sienci. It ran fine. I then ran the file that froze yesterday. It ran fine today in foam. Then I ran the sheep again, and again it ran fine. Andy ran my file that froze yesterday and it ran fine for him.
So, we are left with no idea as to why my LongMill is freezing. We left it that I would send Andy a screen cap of UGS when it freezes next. Until then, I appreciate that there is really nothing to be done. Frustrating, but not the end of the world.
I will continue to run files in foam. At some point, I’m sure that I will become confident enough to take on some jobs.
Thanks much to Chris and Andy.
This may seem like it is coming from outerspace, but it worked for me. Where are you running your mouse from and what is its sensitivity level set at? for me, I had my mouse sitting ON my tabletop and the mouse was fairly sensitive. I had the mouse on the tabletop just in case there were problems and I wanted to stop or pause quickly. I had the pointer hovered over the pause button. I guess my table is not exactly stable, so with the motion of the router, the mouse was shifting positions and I think clicked on something and caused the program to stall. When I reduced sensitivity and became more confident in my toolpaths and stopped twitching with the mouse all the phantom stoppages stopped!!!
As I said, it may be from outerspace, but it worked for me.
Cheers all.
Tks for chiming in, Tom. Andy seems to have solved my problem by replacing the controller. I’ve run a few small inlay jobs with no issues and last night, I did two re-surfacing paths on my spoil board and both ran fine.
Just FYI, my mouse sits on the bench top with my PC and does not touch my Mill table.
Interesting - my job stopped midway as well and I moved the laptop away from the shelf (attached to the router table). I think the router vibrations did have something to do with it as the job ran ok after that. I’m also wondering if wifi connections cutting in and out have something to do with it too
I think there are many variables involved in this. In my case, I am not using wifi, and my pc is on a separate work top. I was able to send Andy a screen cap of UGS when mine last froze and he was able to correctly diagnose my problem as a result.
Hi gwilki,
I’ve been having this exact issue now for a few days. I’ve poured myself into the technical manual, verified all of my connections and even swapped USB cables. No fix??? I’ve recalculated my toolpaths several times, still nothing great to speak of. Curios’er and curios’er?? I think I’m going to loose my SH#@! oops, I meant to say cool. When you say controller, What exactly are you referring to?
You may remember from an earlier conversation that I’m using the SLB on a 48-30 and windows 10.
Any advise for me on this?
@Parkey My issue was 5 years ago, so I don’t know how much of my solution is valid any more. When I spoke of the controller back then, I was referring to the original Long Board. Since you are using the SLB, my experience is really not relevant.
Bummer, thank you anyway. I guess you can see how much I’ve been trying to figure this out.
My spirits are still in tact so far I’m seeing this as a learning experience.
Have a great weekend and thanks again .
@Parkey If you can, Dave, one thing you could try would be to connect to the SLB using ethernet instead of USB. The biggest selling point of the SLB for me was the ability to ditch USB connections. Since moving to ethernet, I have had no freezes - none. Now maybe that would be the case using USB with the SLB as it has better anti-freeze properties, but I simply did not want to know.
Keep in mind if you try this that Sienci has only tested ethernet with a direct SLB to PC connection. No routers or switches in the way. I added a second NIC to my controlling pc so that I can have the pc connected to my home network and the internet on one card and to the SLB on the other with a static IP.
There is absotively no guarantee that this would solve your problem. I’m simply throwing it out here as an alternative.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and your expertise.
Surprisingly, That is exactly what my computer guru suggested to me. Although he originally suggested using a hub, I didn’t want to do that, so He’s working on getting me a card for my computer so we can go direct.
I really don’t know why I didn’t have this problem prior to my current project though. The only real connection I can make is the gSender upgrade to 1.4.9? I’ve given thought to reverting back to 1.4.7, however everything seems to suggest a communication/connection issue and I haven’t seen anything on the forum regarding 1.4.9, so I’m not 100% on that one yet.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and when I finally figure this out, we’ll have yet another opportunity to help someone else in the future.
@Parkey It’s hard to say why this problem has cropped up now. I’ve given up speculating. There are simply too many variables. I don’t believe 1.4.9 has any inherent problems, at least in this context. Clearly, an option is to revert to 1.4.7. Be sure to follow the instructions on this forum to ensure that the config file for 1.4.9 is renamed before re-installing 1.4.7.
FWIW, your approach to this is spot on. We are all learning. Passing that knowledge along keeps this a good place to come to when problems arise.
@ gwilki I came in this morning and ran the pass again and it auto paused on the first attempt. Something that came to mind yesterday was that I had put “G4 P2” and IOT relay options M8 and M9 in the programmed events page of the settings in gSender. I have them connected in the Coolant input of the SLB, as Sienci Labs suggested in the Technical Manual. I decided to try disabling them in the settings page of gsender and plug my vacuum and router directly to the circuit protector. This would require me to manually turn them on, therefore bypassing the IOT Relay. after several attempts, Not a single pause. All ran perfectly.
I’m going to continue running my project to see if I can recreate the issues and I’ll post my final results here for future reference as well as communicate with Sienci Labs for any reason they may find it useful.
I just want to thank you again for jumping up to the plate with your thoughts on this matter and hopefully some day I’ll be capable of doing the same for someone else.
May the Gods of CNC life be on your side.
