Previously the XZ gantry has been moving ok but now it seems to be binding when moving down using Gsender commands. Moving up is ok. I disassembled the gantry and thoroughly cleaned it but upon reassembly noticed it does NOT slide smoothly along its tracks. Is there an adjustment I can make to smooth the movement.
I am using the new self adjusting backlash
@jlfonck1 If you either remove the bolts holding the anti-backlash but or remove the lead screw, does the gantry move and up and down smoothly?
Did both, removed backlash and removed lead screw and it still was very rough. the biggest bind area seems to be in the upper 1/4 of the screw, although it is rough along the whole path
@jlfonck1 A guess is that there is something off with the linear rails. They need to be kept clean and oil regularly. If you have not been doing that, it’s likely they are the problem. You can try oiling them now. If they are just grungy, that may fix things. If you have not been maintaining them, there may be flat spots on the balls. If that’s the case, they are shot and need replacing.
While you are playing around, be sure to check the bolts holding them to the plate.
Thank you very much. I applied a coat of penetrating oil to the rails, and they slide smoothly now. I did check the bolts, and they are tight
@jlfonck1 You’re welcome, but pentrating oil is not the best way to do. You need lubrication. It’s your machine and your call, but you would be better of with 3in1 or something similar.
Since you have resolved the issue, I will close the thread.
