If I understand correctly, the new US tariffs announced today (4/2/2525) will not affect future shipments of SIENCI CNC machines to the US as part of USMCA. I.e., there will be no new tariffs on CNC machines shipped from Canada to the US. Is that correct?
This is why I like Sienci as a company and went with you over other manufacturers like One Finity (actually, never really considered others too much). You are open and transparent with most everything. Keep it up.
Having read the update, I’m still a bit confused. I placed my order for an AltMil on March 6th. Will I be responsible for paying a tariff when my machine is shipped to me?
From the various posts and blogs on the topic, here is my understanding on the subject. It would be for Sienci to confirm.
If you placed an order prior to March 4, 2025 at 3PM, Sienci Sienci will provide DDP or DAP incoterms for American customers. Basically this means “delivery duty paid” and the shipment will enter the US with Sienci paying any duties and tariffs.
If you placed an order after March 4th, Sienci will not cover import duties or tariffs that are applied.
a. Import duties: You may or may not have to pay import duties or their associated fees. Import duties are different from tariffs and have always been present. And even if duties are not required, UPS may still charge you an administration fee.
b. Tariffs: Most Sienci products fall under USMCA and will not be tariffed while covered by that agreement. This was guaranteed to last until April 2nd. There’s no indication that it will change after April 2nd but thing are very fluid and unclear. But since purchases made in early April will likely not be delivered until June, a lot of things can change between now and then. For customers who are unwilling to pay tariffs should the USMCA exemption be removed, Sienci is advising customers to either place orders now and cancel their orders if a tariff is put into place, or wait until the trade war is over.
What is still unclear to me is how the dates for imposing tariffs are calculated by the US government. Is it the date of purchase or the date the items cross into the US. For example, if you purchased the items on March 31st (while they were still covered by USMCA) but they are only delivered in June (when they may not be covered by USMCA), would you still be required to pay the tariffs. Not sure about that one.
As to your question specifically. If you look at the order tracking list, there are 388 systems to be delivered until they get to yours purchased on March 6th. Sienci appears to have all the part required and if they ship 50 per week as intended, you should get yours by the end of May. Whether or not you will need to pay tariffs will depend on if the Altmill is still covered by USMCA at that time (and keeping in mind the comment of my previous paragraph). With respect to the status of the USMCA agreement in late May, no one knows at the moment.
You have about 6-7 weeks before your items ship. In early May (and maybe before then), Sienci will no doubt provide more updates as things are clarified. You can then decide to cancel your order or cheer your imminent delivery.
