Sending image files to gControl Panel Computer

Looking for a way to send image files from my iMac to my gControl Panel Computer without having to transfer via USB drive. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi Mike,

I have no knowledge of imacs and all so can only elaborate how I tranfer images/files around my devices.

I have my own cload device, but that one is not always powered on. But if it is, thats an option, use either 3th party cloud or your own server.

I use my phone as my primary camera, and if quality isnt the main consern, i simply whatsapp the picture to myself and use whatsap running on my windows machine to retrieve it.

If I need better quality I mail the photo to myself and retrieve it on the machine I need it at. I use my tablet to do photo editting and this is the best way to keep pictures at their best cross platform.

And then there is direct tranfering to shared maps where you can simply drag&drop a file into a shared folder on the windows machine you need it at. The shared folders need to be set. And the recieving machine needs to be powered on.

@mikehoover You should be able to access the preconfigured Windows shared drive from your Mac. I believe the default username is “sienci” and a blank password. I forget the name of the share. Won’t be back home until tomorrow so can’t help you more than that for the moment. It goes without saying that your gControl needs to be on the same network as your Mac.

Edit: I think there was a default share. If not, just create a folder, then right-click on the folder, select “Show more options,” then “Properties,” and go to the “Sharing” tab. Click on “Share,” and choose the people you want to share with. Built in username and password as above.

I’m sure there are plenty of ways and some of these have already been mentioned but..

  1. Cloud Drive - Apple/iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, Nextcloud, etc
  2. NAS - Network share, FTP, SMB, etc
  3. Email - email it to yourself and log into the email on the gControl
  4. USB direct - assuming the image is on your phone, plug a spare cord into the gControl and download
  5. Bluetooth - possible from iMac or iPhone to gControl

Although at some point I may set up a shared folder I second the first solution from Whitewolf. I upload .nc files to Google Drive from my Macbook and then download them on the gControl computer when I’m ready to run them.

Got the Google Drive working. :raising_hands: This might be the easiest method. I can see the “gcontrol” on my imac but cannot connect for whatever reason. That is a headache for another day.

Glad you got it working!

It is usually either a permissions, domain, or storage-type issue that interferes with computers sharing. I run mostly Linux based systems and had to create a special NFS-type to share between Linux and the couple of Windows PCs I have.

If you every get bored, you can create your own NAS/Cloud system fairly easily with NextCloud or OwnCloud (or others) and have an internal cloud to use (can be external too). From there it gets more complicated but you can create a NFS share that should allow access to all computers & devices within your home. There are even some that can run on a Raspberry Pi to reduce costs - or on an old, otherwise outdated machine.
