Hello! Happy New Year!
When I was working, I’d take time to write down all my goals for the new year and break them down to manageable steps. Retired now, so I don’t take the time to do this much. Thought it would be fun to post shop goals for 2025 and revisit them at the end of the year to see if they were accomplished. If you are so inclined, add yours in the thread! I would enjoy seeing and hearing what you all are planning for 2025.
My shop goal is pretty simple. “Reduce dust”. I have 4” dust hose everywhere on the floor. Besides being a significant tripping hazard, it isn’t very efficient. I will run metal ductwork in my shop with drops to my power tools. I also need to switch out my 30 micron “filter” on my “chip” collector to a 1 micron filter. Even though I use an inline cyclone to capture particles before it reaches the dust collector, I still get a large cloud of dust when the bag inflates. My remote switch DOES help reduce my exposure, it still creates particles in the air. I do use a respirator, but am not as diligent about using it as I should be.
I found a steal on a new Jet air filtration system with an air quality sensor and timer to hang from the ceiling. That would be here within the next week or so. While not the end all solution, it should improve my air quality when coupled with my ductwork project.
I have one pair of lungs, might as well protect them right? It’s not a super “sexy” goal, but when I was working, I always touted “safety first”. Time to step up and do it for myself.
My other goals may not be realistic, but here they are anyhow, in no particular order.
- Upgrade my CNC to a 48x96 AltMill.
- Purchase a drum sander
- Purchase a band saw for resawing wood
Once again, I wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!
