I’ve been working on several modifications to the Vectric Box Gadget and have ended up creating a fork of the project, so if anyones looking for a quick and easy way to create either dovetailed or finger jointed boxes in Vectric you migth want to check out the changes I’ve made.
I’m hosting it in GitHub in case anyone wants to check out the code or make contributions instructions are also in the readme. You can just go to the release point and download the latest release.
I’m not entirely certain to tell you the truth I only just started with Vectric software earlier this year and so I have Vcarve 12.5
I have heavily modified the original version and I’m not aware of what changes may have not been available in those versions, could you please let me know?
I don’t think you need to do any coding, just download the “.vgadget” file and double click on it and it should install and either it’s going to work or it’s going to fail with an error. If it fails with an error than it’s likely not compatible with that version.
Dovetail box creation uses a fluting toolpath so if that’s no available either at all or from the API then that might fail, but normal toolpath creation might work. I know there was some code in there that checked for >= version 9.513 that is no longer there because someone mentioned that it was handled elsewhere, although actually I can’t find any other code that checks for a BuildVersion. It makes me think it should work if you’re over 9.513
As of versions 10 the HTML tool picker in the gadget API changed. Most current gadgets that have tool pickers will not work in versions below 10.
Gadgets with tool pickers can be made to run on either below version 10 or above version 10 but I’m probably the only gadget writer that bothers with that.
What gremlin mentions is that I noted that since his (and sharkcutup’s) box gadget only uses that post v10 tool picker certain logic related to validating HTML input before v9.513 wasn’t needed as the gadget would never run in a old version.
