I don’t use CA glue I use wood clamp hold downs. My tabs always leave two drill marks that are 1/2 the size of my bit…this creates a lot of extra sanding that sometimes distorts the project…. What are some possible remedies?
Hey JAC,
I too don’t use ca glue or tabe with my projects unless it’s realy thin and I need to prevent it to be sucked up bij the draft produced by the bit.
I have made my own clamps that are wood, they don’t leave any marks. You could make your own clamps, specific to your needs, that will not leave any marks. If you are use a lot of square edged material for your projects, you could opt to clamp using wedges.
I use good old hold down clamps for my more irregular jobs that have no straigt edges and need a propper flattening cycle. Can’t have hold down clamps in that situation.
If the project isn’t to large and I can fit it in a few clamps, I might opt to use this clamping methode too.
I’m assuming that when you say “tab” that you mean the part that is left in a cut to hold the piece together.
You didn’t say what design software you use to create those tabs. If Vectric, then I use what they call 3D tabs where the bit movement doesn’t stop as it is changing Z to leave the tab. There are no bit marks on the piece, but the tab remains have to be leveled by sanding.
I don’t normally flatten my projects, only used 3d tabs once in Vectric. Can’t remember if that helped, I made them too thick and had a lot of sanding…will try 3d tabs again.
Thx guz
