This may be a very stupid question!

I am a fusion user, and getting into generating tool paths and sending them to my friends AVID machine in preparation for my Altmill 4x8. I was thinking I could install the gSender software on my mac and post up some g-code and get familiar with the interface. Given that it isn’t plugged into a machine didn’t know if it would show me anything and be a worth the time.

@jBones It can’t hurt to go over all the options of the interface even if you don’t have a machine. That said, you can connect an Arduino to it to make it think there’s a controller there. There is also a software emulator that you can use. Search for a post from @_Michael for details on that.

@jBones @Chucky_ott I agree with Chucky. I use an arduino just plugged into my desktop computer. I loaded the firmware from Sienci so gSender thinks it’s running a cnc. Obviously there are processes (think probe) that you can’t test easily but overall it works pretty well. And it’s not a stupid question.

I’m guessing it is more real life ā€œrunningā€ than the simulation in Fusion. It is responding to inputs from gSender.

Any advise on what product to get from them?

Not sure. I have one of the original MK1 machines with it’s controller version. Since you’re getting an AltMill I don’t know if there are different versions of the firmware. Maybe someone else with more knowledge can jump in and advise.

thats actually a good idea. I’m about to order altmill myself

Here is a link to my post about the grblHAL simulator in case anyone is interested.
