hello all. so i just did first round of tramming and Ssurfacing of 15x12 piece of mdf. going long way Front to back (Y direction) i get ridges, but doing it left to right (X Direction) its glass smooth. Do i need to adjust Nod or tilt?
I’m assuming that by tilt you mean in the X axis, right to left if standing at the front of the machine.
If that’s so, yes, you need to adjust the tilt. Fortunately, that’s easier than front to back in the Y axis.
By X axis tilt I’m not referring to the movement of the machine, but whether or not the top and bottom are aligned along the X axis with the machine stationary, as in looking at a clock.

In my experience, tramming in X is much easier. You slightly loosen the mounting bolts and pivot the spindle on one of the top bolts until you get it trammed. Some have said their AltMill shipped with a tramming bolt with the shaft of the bolt machined to a cam. That allows you to slightly rotate the bolt to pivot the spindle. Tiny adjustments are usually all that’s necessary.
I sure wish someone would develop a new mount that allows for adjustments. I’d buy it in a second!
