X axis assembly

On assembly of the X axis, you’re instructed to use a clamp on the left side to ensure your X rail butts up against the wall of the relieved area on the gantry rail. I tighten those screws. Without removing the clamp as instructed in the video, the right side X rail and gantry rail weren’t butting up against the gantry rail like it did on the left side. Shouldn’t both sides of the X rail be attached to each gantry rail in the same fashion. They tell you not to use the clamp on the other side.

Any suggestions?

Hi Brian,

Happy welcome and new year.

There are a few unknowns in your story. One being what machine you are working on, and two what instructions you are using - video or manual.

Manual can be found here and might be a wee more detailed than a video.

Hope you can get the machine to fit like a glove.

This is for a 2x4 Altmill. I’ve been using both video and printed documentation. If the right side of my gantry does not butt up against the alignment feature, does that mean I installed it incorrectly. With the left side clamped, I noticed a gap between the alignment feature and the gantry, On a video I watched it said to NOT clamp the right side so I didn’t. I did try to pull it towards the alignment feature when tightening, but it didn’t budge. I just want to make sure this won’t affect performance of the machine.

Thanks
