I had a chance to run the machine again with good results. I surfaced a piece of oak that was the victim of the offset problem and made a sign for a friend from it. I pocket cut the letters and had 3 bit changes with all my cuts lining up, along with the border being perfectly even around. I think the offset problem is gone for good.
