z-Axis Travel issue

My Z_Axis is only traveling about 1.75 inches after homing. G-sender reads -6.634 on the z when is stops but with taking measurements I am only getting travel of -1.75.

I turned off soft limits and there was no change. I was going to use tune correction of the z but I was not sure if that is the right course of action.

Any help is appreciated

Thank you

Hello @Edwin, welcom to the group.

I’m assuming that you are using gSender. Which set of Z numbers are you refering to? After you home the small numbers in the right column should be at zero. Those are the machine coordinates. The bigger numbers in the left column are the work coordinates and those could be anything depending on where the machine was set with the zero buttons to left of the coordinates.

You want to home and verify the machine coordinates are at zero and then jog down and see how much the machine cooridates have changed.

Do you have a Sienci machine? If so which one because someone else that has the same mill should know how far it should move.

I am using gsender and it is the machine coordiantes I am refering to. After homing I did set the to zero. I have an Altmil 4x4 that I just finished assembly on.

Okay, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. Have you changed any settings from the defaults?

This page has the defaults and this page shows how to restore the defaults.

I can’t think of what else it could be ATM.

EDIT: It could be that the coupler between the motor and ball screw shaft isn’t tight enough and it’s slipping. Are X and Y axes moving the correct amount?

Thank you, I checked all of this and still have issues. The x and y have full motion, and the spindle is operating correctly.

I will do move testing and see if I can provide more information

@Edwin Another thing to check would be the dip switch settings on the motor. I don’t know if reduced travel would be a symptom but worth checking anyways.

Thank you, the dip switches were the issue. Now I am on to the spoil board.

Thanks again.
