Z driving into project

Hitting the go to XY button in gsender does not retract the “Z” axis. Big problem if you kill the job.

@PAY Yes it does, depending on the settings used. And on gSender 1.5.6. Not sure about other versions.

If you have homing enabled, which it is by default on the Altmill, it may raise or lower the spindle depending on its current position and the safe height you have configured in gSender. The final position will be the safe height value below the highest position possible, unless you have a sfe height value of 0.

For example,
a safe height value of 5mm will position the spindle 5mm lower than the top.
a safe height value of 50mm will position the spindle 50 mm from the top.
Unfortunately, a safe height position of 0mm will not change the z level at all. That might be a bug or by design.

If your safe height value is too high, you run the risk of having the spindle drop when using the go to’s.
How it works is explained in the notes on the right of the setting. I personally find it confusing since it’s call “safe height” and you’d assume that’s how much it would raise before moving in the xy direction.
