Z home shortcut

I always z home after probing to slip on the dust boot a shortcut would be greatly appreciated so i can add it to my game pad. thank you i love my altmill

Hey @Seeendsea_labs,

You can create your own shortcuts if you wish, check out this section of our resources for more info! If you have homing switches installed, you could use the park feature to β€˜Park’ the router anywhere you want.

Cheers,

Stephen

thank you for your reply. i guess a better way to word my request is to add z homing as an action. you can home individual axis by clicking on them under the home button but when i go to create a shortcut it is not listed as a possible action in the shortcuts menu. thank you

Hey @Seeendsea_labs,

Ah, gotcha. The team chatted about adding individual homing axes to the shortcuts menu this morning, so you may see that come out in a future version.

That being said, we are concerned about your use case here. As a best practice, you should home the machine first, then probe. Move your z-axis up using G53 machine movements to allow for room to install a dust boot.

Running a single axis home AFTER probing may shift the location, since workspace offsets are an offset of machine coordinates and homing may change machine coordinates

Cheers,
Stephen

thanks for your expertise and concern! z home was a lazy way to lift it to max height i will follow your best practices from here out.

A simple G53 G21 G0 Z-3 will move 3mm below Z height in machine coordinates (top of the gantry) and is definitely preferable to a homing command.
