I have a Sainsmart 3020 with a homemade touch plate of 4.94mm thickness. I have not had any problems using it with UGS.
Z probe settings are: type Z probe; thickness 4.94mm; probe distance 30mm; fast find 150mm; slow find 75mm; Sainsmart.
After the probe circuit is confirmed, the bit lowers, touches the plate, then raises and begins lowering again. It does not stop, but buries itself in the workpiece. If I move the workpiece to the side, it will lower the whole 30mm Z probe distance and then throw up an error code about not contacting the surface within the specified distance.
It sounds like you are moving the touchplate after the first touch. If you are, that’s your problem. gSender will probe twice - once at fast find and once at slow. Don’t move the plate in between the two. If you do, it will keep lowering in search of the touchplate.
That will do it! Duh! I was manually lifting the touch plate up to the bit to activate the circuit! If there are instructions on that in Gsender, I haven’t seen them. No wonder! Thanks!
@JohnT You do start the process by raising the plate to touch the bit. This ensures that all the connections are good. In addition to the video that @Spamming_Eddie posted, take a look at the gSender documentation here
