I started to set up this morning in hopes to finish a piece from yesterday evening and this sound is happening on the Z-axis when moving it down. Is something too tight? Do I need to lube the rails? Video of sound on google drive link below.
@Swinly If anything, Lonnie, it sounds to me like your anti-backlash nut is too tight. I would suggest backing it all the way off to see if the noise goes away. If it does, then tighten only enough to take out the backlash.
As for that lube, Sienci recommends against dry lubes for the linear bearings. Take a look here for more details:
I’m sorry I can’t remember for sure but I do believe it was the anti-backlash nuts being too tight. Oh and don’t use the dry lube I posted above.
While you are adjusting them I would go ahead and check all bolts/screws/nuts for tightness too. I think about that time I started making it more of a habit. While checking, I found the source of another noise that was starting to make me paranoid. One of the aluminum spacers on the motors was loose enough to cause a tiny vibration and buzzing.
I just started over. I tried to just adjust the backlash screws but couldnt get rid of it completely. So i set them to barely touching, loosened their mounts, retightened the axis screw, ran it stop to stop a few times, tightened the mounts again on both sides, and the sounds was gone.
Is it normal though to have at the wheels super tight at one end of the x rail but looser in the middle? Its a new machine
