AutoZero touch plate not working

I would like to know how to use the AutoZero touch plate. So I watched a video on how to do it. After trying to use it nothing happened. I am assuming you need to attach the plug to the Sienci control board to the probe ground connection. Then plug the wire into the touch plate that is near the AutoZero touch plate. Then attach the magnet to the spindle nut of the router. Touch the tip of the bit to the touch plate and it should work. Do I have to press a start button? Do I have to have a program loaded? I am terrified of jamming the bit into the touch plate.

@Dean Did you go through the documentation?

You need to start the probing routine in gSender. All your other steps look fine.

Duh. Thank you very much! The bit did not crash into the touch probe. Thank goodness! Next question. Now that I ran the probe and it touched off what does that tell me? I just did the Z only.

@Dean It set the zero location of your x,y, and/or z relative to your workpiece. That zero needs to match the zeros your define in your CAM program.

Thanks for the reply! So I see probing XYZ the readings go to zeros. So that is just a start point then? If you set the XY datum position to the left bottom that is where the machine will start. If you select the XY datum position in the center of a project and you have ran the probe program on a corner what happens?

@Dean nothing good will happen

The zero position you define on your machine has to match the zero in your CAM program. If that’s on the center of your project, then you need to zero your machine on the centre of your workpiece too. I probably would not use the AZTP for X0Y0 in this case. I’d just use it for Z0. For X0Y0, I’d eyeball it. Using a conical centerline gauge in the spindle can help.

Thank you for the responses. You have been a big help! Centering your suggestion sounds like a great idea.
