Hi guys I am new here and have downloaded the GSender 1.1.7 for my elderly MacBook Pro. I used the propriety Code program from Maker Dreams with the same MacBook but after moving house and being ready to continue carving I found that the program would not connect properly. So after some searching I found your product. Whilst it says it is connected none of the controls work. It is connected vis a USB port exactly as it was before moving, so cannot understand why? Any ideas gratefully received.
All controls are grey and the status bar in the top middle states connecting and never changes.
Yes there is a good reason, the MacBook I have in the workshop is old and cannot run the latest version! Looking at the interface I really want to get this running as it looks great.
I have managed to get the wording from the connection - /dev/tty.usbserial-MDTT172 - with MDTT172 being the serial number.
Thanks for answering and the main reason for installing version 1.1.7 is that I have an old MacBook Pro which has been running the CNC well but cannot run the latest version of this app.
I have added some more info about what is happening, and look forward to your reply and help.
Does typing a ? in the console change the status? I think there was an issue with status retrieval on that version for non-standard grbl versions that didn’t have startup messages.
Short answer - NO. The only way I can connect is with the /dev/tty.usbserial-MDTT172. In the console that info is repeated and there is no way to type anything let alone a ?
In the past I remember there being a COM followed by a number, any idea what that number might be?
I have been using the original software provided by Maker Dreams and that had a COM setting. Silly me did not think to take a screen shot just in case. Even this program shows /dev/tty.usbserial-MDTT172 when the USB cable is connected, so I am hoping it not something more serious.
COM(x) is a Windows standard for naming - if you were connecting on Windows before, the same device would be listed as COMx whereas it might be available on a *nix system as /dev/tty…
I’m unsure of the board used in that CNC, so double-check under unrecognized devices to see if there is another USB you can connect to - you might be connecting to the incorrect device.
Past that I’m uncertain - It’s a 3 year old unsupported version, and I don’t have/am unfamiliar with your make/model of CNC so a bit tougher to diagnose.
Thanks for your reply and that is interesting about the Windows connection. I have checked and the only other options are for a Wifi and bluetooth connection. Bluetooth because I have bluetooth mouse and the Wifi because I am connected to Wifi.
In your latest version I have on my new MacBook Air you list the Maker Dream Evo One in your list of machines to connect to, so at least somebody there has checked the connections. When I connect my Air I still get the same info.
I do somewhere have an even older Windows laptop that I got specially for it until I upgraded my MacBook, I will try and find it and see what happens.
Given that I am getting the same connection details, could it mean that something has happened to Eva-One that is not sortable? I am writing this hoping that it is not the case. I do not know of a pc guy where I am that might be able to help.
Thanks again for your help and looking forward to your reply.
