E Stop Button Problem

Altmill 2x4 MK2 with SLB Superlongboard and Sienci 1.5KW Spindle, Gcontrol and Gsender.

All working fine and suddenly in the middle of a job, I get an E stop error.

When I restart and activate the E stop, I get a beep and 2 of the LED lights quickly flash. Then nothing. The lights won’t stay on. I checked all the wiring, unplugged, re-plugged, multiple restarts of everything in different orders. Nothing seems to help.

Any insight as to what me happening and how to fix would be great.

Also- I’m on the last procedure of a big job and need about 5 minutes more of machine time! Anyone know of a way to temporarily bypass the E stop button?

@HonestKnifeCo Does the console show anything?

For anyone following-

I found this article: Alarm 10 Warning - E-stop Troubleshooting – Sienci Labs

(thanks @Chucky_ott !)

Using the troubleshooting guide for Alarm 10 / Machine locked when E-stop is released I found that when the power to the Z motor was disconnected, the e stop button was able to clear the error.

I spoke with Craig at Sienci and he recommended swapping the Z motor for a different motor to further isolate what the problem might be. (All 4 motors on this Altmill are the same.)

I’m going to try that now and will report back.

@HonestKnifeCo When you swap the motors, make sure the dip switches are set for that motor’s position. I don’t know if they’re different but it would be outlined in the installation documents.

Update- the Sienci Tech team determined it was a bad motor. They shipped me a new one- already! Just got the tracking number.

How many hours do you estimate the motor had on it?

Probably close to 40

Do you or they know what exactly is causing it to fail?

Motor reliability may be an issue. I’m on my third one on my vortex which doesn’t have that many hours on it.

I assume there are higher quality motors that can be used instead?
