Experiencing backlash with new spring-loaded anti-backlash nuts

Hi. I have a 48x30 MK2 and recently replaced upgraded to the new spring-loaded anti-backlash nuts (3xT8’s and 1xT12).

Two of the new nuts are working well (the left-Y T8 and the X-axis T12), but the other two (right Y and Z) are experiencing some play on the lead screw.

By hand I can slightly move the gantry back and forth and you get that clicking noise on those two AB nuts. I’ve placed my finger on the part where the lead screw enters the AB nut and have confirmed that I can feel a slight movement.

I’ve checked the V-wheels are correctly tightened, and made sure the lead screw bearing nut was sufficiently tightened after installing the nuts.

I’ve recorded a video to demonstrate the issue: IMG_1652.MOV

The effects are that I’m getting a bit of inaccuracy in cuts when the router changes direction (e.g. corners that have a tiny but noticeable notch).

Any ideas? I’m resisting to tighten the screws on the spring as the instructions said not to. But…?

Thanks,
Richard

Have you solved your backlash issue? I ordered a set of these today and I’m hoping they will be trouble free.

I reached out to support, and Jason was very helpful. He’s sent me a new set of nuts that he’s personally tested so I reckon this should fix the issue. They’ve not arrived yet so I can’t say for sure.

Cheers,
Rich
