G Sender Z axis losing 0 Mid carve

l have a longmill 48x30 with the touch screen computer installed with G Sender using the super long board. Everything works fine but the “Z” axis randomly plunges down through the project. I have checked my files while creating them but the issue continues at random, sometimes once during a carve, sometimes three times, most of the time at 3/4 through the carve. On the computer I have the screen saver off and all other timers off. Any recommendations

Thank you

@DavidLDick Welcome to the group, David. Are you connecting with ethernet or USB? If USB, have you turned off all the power saving settings related to the USB ports?

USB port. I’m not sure where the controls for the USB ports are located on this touch screen computer but I will attempt to locate them now and turn them off also. Thank you

@DavidLDick If the touch screen is running windows 10 or 11, you will find what you are looking for in control panel/power settings.

To be clear, I am not saying that this is the definitive solution to your issue. It is just one thing to look into. Another thing to try will be to run the offending file in air.

I am still having issues with the Z axis loosing 0 randomly during a sketch carve or a photo carve.

I have checked the computer timers and they are all off. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

I am still having issues loosing Z axis 0 during mid sketch carve at random. What do I need to look at to fix this issue

@DavidLDick I suggest that you open a support ticket with Sienci.

This just happened to me. I uploaded a simple toolpath. About 5 minutes in, in the middle of a move, it plunged straight into the piece, destroying 3 days of work. I’m beyond disappointed. I checked the simulation, checked the gcode, and everything is correct. The windows PC is connected via a USB cable and all the power settings are set to the gsender suggestions. Nothing in the gcode console showed a move into the workpiece.

@DavidLDick let me know what you find out from support.

@cryptyk I think the general recommendation will be for you to try using Ethernet instead of USB (if your controller supports it) and making sure your dust collection system, if you’re using one, is properly grounded. That would be the first thing I would try.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry for the delay, but the forum made me wait 24 hours before replying back to you

I’m using a shapeoko, so WiFi isn’t an option. I wasn’t using dust collection for this particular carving.

I was looking for a “cooler” and better maintained alternative to cnc.js, but this was my first piece on gSender and pretty bummed it got wrecked. Plunging Z- is kind of the worst bug a gcode sender can have. I know gSender works for LOTS of people so it’s probably something in Dave and my setups, but I think I’m going to head back to cnc.js or UGS for now. I’ll definitely try sacrificial pieces if I try another sender again in the future.

Thanks!

Hi all, since we’re gearing up for a new gSender Main release I’m digging through older topics that fell through the cracks to see if the problems are now resolved on new gSender or gSender Edge versions, or if they still are occurring and if so then we’d like to fix them up promptly if we can.

If you can give any response in the next week or so it’d be greatly appreciated :+1:
