gControl WIFI continuously disconnects

Just noticed today that the WIFI on my gControl continuously disconnects and reconnects. And I mean continuously, like 5s on, 5s off. The only thing that changed are the Windows updates on Tuesday and the installation of Touch Portal (since removed to troubleshoot this issue). Anyone else notice the same on their gControl after the Windows updates?

Rebooted WIFI router (but the gControl is the only device having this problem)
Rebooted Windows
Forced 5 GHz band (doesn’t seem to support it)
Disabled power management
Checked for Realtek drivers (they’re up-to-date)
Reset IP stack
etc, etc.

I have another router that’s not being used so I’ll see if it can remain connected to it.

Connection to other router is strong and stable.

LOL, I just logged on to my primary router and I’m looking at the connections. The gControl is switching between the 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ antenna every time it reconnects.

Allright, you can’t force the driver to use a specific band but disabling “Automatically Reconnect” forced it to connect to one band (2.4GHZ) and stick to it.

Mommy :frowning:

That was short lived. The connection eventually disconnected after a few minutes. On to plan B. My router uses multi-band SSID by default. That means both the 2.4 GHZ and 5GHZ bands use the same SSID. I disabled that and now have one SSID for each band. And the gControl is now using the SSID for the 2.4 GHZ band only.

I had a similar experience at work a few months back with some newer technology I brought into the warehouse - device(s) kept bouncing from 2.4 to 5G and wreaking havoc.
Usually you can either 1) adjust the device to use only 1 band, or 2) tell the AP to tie a MAC address to a specific band (depends on the AP/Router)

Glad you got it sorted!

Weird that it started just this week. I don’t access the internet from this computer very much so it’s possible it started earlier. But I had Touch Portal running all week and it uses the internal wifi connection. I would have noticed it if it was disconnecting. Then again, I didn’t use it yesterday or today, nor any time since Patch Tuesday.

Not sure what you neighbor situation is but if someone recently added or upgraded their AP which introduced noise or competing channels, that could also be a factor affecting your network (and devices). Many devices (or people) have them set to high/max power not really understanding what is needed, which results in signal bleed in neighborhoods/apartments. I swear one of my neighbors has his AP aimed at my living room.
