I was informed by Customer Support that the maintenance reminders are for both Altmill and LongMill. And after spending a fair amount of time trying to find things on my Altmill that aren’t there, I finally broke down and posed the question to support. I was surprised given that gSender knows what machine I have. So could we either only provide Altmill and or LongMill reminders based on the machine selected or could we denote which maintenance reminders are for Altmill ,which for LongMill, and which are for both in the reminder dialog? Thanks
@dhempy I had asked that exact same question and I think got the same answer. I was also told that you can edit the reminders to suit your needs. But I agree, gSender should know which one you have and warn you accordingly. Then again, not everyone uses gSender with a Sienci CNC. I don’t know what those users get. Maybe the reminders should be an optional import and you decide which file to upload based on your machine.
I was tired of getting warned about the v wheels and backlash nuts (I have an Altmill) so I disabled the warnings altogether. I’m nearing my maintenance cycle where I need to apply grease to the zirk fittings, so I’ll update the warning then. I’ve been too lazy to do it up to now.
Thanks for the feedback. I do think it should at least be simple to label a reminder by machine type. My machine has been running all afternoon, so I haven’t yet had a chance to look at customizing reminders.
Do you have any trouble with the zerk fitting behind the spindle mount? I think they call it the Y axis but that ball screw moves in the x direction, so in my mind it’s the X axis. I have a 2x4 and it’s the 4’ screw. Anyway, I need to loosen that zerk about 1/32 - 1/16 of a turn to be able to get my grease fitting on. As it is now, there’s not enough room between the fitting and the spindle plate. Loosening it a smidge should solve it. But it’ll require major disassembly of the spindle and a complete retram (ughh).
The maintenance tasks were all updated with 1.5.0 to be generic for all machine types instead of being specific to the LongMill as they were originally. This applies to fresh gSender installs - if you had a version installed before then, you’d need to update them manually. Backwards migration risked impacting users custom maintenance setups so we didn’t go that route since they are already completely customizable.
We don’t know what machine you’re connecting to on app startup, only after connection. We also don’t know that you’re using a Sienci machine at all. Our userbase extends far past just people we’ve sold machines to. As such, they are kept generic.

I went to the resources page on the website to find out the maintenance needs for the 25 hour alert I was getting. I have the Altmill MK2 4x4. I found the page but there was a lot of stuff and reference to parts I couldn’t identify. I certainly wouldn’t not have remember what they were called from the assembly some months ago. Just now reading your post, I didnt know I didnt have backlash nuts. I provided the feedback on the website that a video of the various intervals on the various machines would be extremely helpful. The Sienci guys would do well to remember to many of us are new or weekend warriors and don’t live this everyday, much less manufacture them and thus know what every part is called or its purpose. Just feedback once more.
