I finished surfacing my spoil board today. I noticed some erratic movement at the end of travel when manually moving the spindle to get the dimensions for surfacing. I decided to revisit the Homing & Limits resource and when I got part of the way down, I was directed to a video on YouTube, Enabling the Inductive Sensors for the LongMill CNC from Sienci Labs found here-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmiaWA5tiVw
At roughly 25s they talk about the firmware tool and emphasize making sure the correct machine is selected which in my case it was not. It was set to LongMill MK2 48x30. So, I followed the steps in the video selecting Altmill 4x4, flash the firmware, then following the prompt to click the Defaults button. A pop up appeared that asked if I wanted to restore the defaults, so I clicked Restore Defualts. I got a green check mark that said the defaults had been restored to my machine, immediately followed by Error 53-Setting is not available, possibly due to limited driver support.
What did I miss? How do I make sure that the firmware is correctly updated to my machine before proceeding with the Homing & Limits setup.
@mpo881 I’m sure that an Altmill owner will reply, but I would caution you that you are relying on a video whose title specifically states that it relates to the Long Mill. It is 3 years old and running a very old version of gSender.

@Chucky_ott I agree the error seems to not be an issue. I was more concerned about the gsender thinking I had a Longmill 48x30 versus what I actually have and not being able to update it as instructed.
@mpo881 I see what you mean. My comment was not a criticism of your approach. However, I stand by my position that it is not ideal to be relying on 3-year-old information relating to a different machine and being demonstrated on a completely out of date version of gSender.
That said, it’s clearly up to you on how you want to proceed. Please report back on how you make out.
@mpo881 That’s the gSender version. The firmware is shown elsewhere. I’m not at my machine so can’t give you more than that. It’s on the main screen, somewhere at the top. I think it’s a little icon just to the left of the “idle” label in the centre. I think typing $$ in the console will give you the info.
I would upgrade to gsender 1.6.3 first, then i would follow these steps to flash latest grblhal firmware for 4x4 then do restore default and in the tools there is a wizard for spindle configuration
