I am getting the altmill 2.5 spindle that is 220v. The plug does not fit the receptacle. Can I make an ext cord with the right receptacle on one end and the correct plug on the other end? The spindle is nema 6-15 and the receptacle is a 6-20 locking plug
Yes, that would be my suggestion. The alternative is to replace the locking receptacle with a regular one if you are able to do the replacement yourself. If you have to hire an electrician, the adapter is likely a better bet.
Having a locking receptacle is unusual. Did you install that in anticipation of the mill?
The in wall receptacle was already there. I plug my bandsaw into it. I can’t afford to have another in wall receptacle installed. Already dropped a bundle to get the machine. The electrician wanted $500 + for another circuit. I’ll have to save up for that.
Yeah, the adapter would be my choice.
One of these is likely what you would want

It will allow you to plug in a 15A or 20A plug in that 20A receptacle
@Rdaigneault If you don’t need the extra length of the extension cord, and if you are going to “make” the extension cord, why not simply cut the plug off the spindle cable and install the locking plug onto that?
Good idea. Unfortunately I receptical is to far away. Thank you.
