I think its a bearing problem

altmill 4x4.

ok from the front of the machine the the bearing on the right back side of the ball screw is making a ton of noise. has since assembly but its getting worse. its an oscilating noise kinda sounds like a grinding noise sort of. moving the gantry left and right is very quiet and smooth. moving it forward and back is kinda loud and also carries a vibration through the machine.
need a direction to go with this.
do i need a new bearing block? is this something that is offered?

I believe there was a similar problem mentioned some time ago and I think the bolts that attach the block to the gantry were not tightened during assembly.

Note that this memory is fuzzy so not guarantees ….

this noise is is very rythmic and doest have a certain spot. its constant and i think i have checked all of the bolts. i can pinpoint the exact spot on the machine that is making the noise.

My machine got way quieter when I spent the time to use a machinists level and get the y axis rails closer to being coplanar. I also used a dial indicator on the spoilboard after leveling to further dial in the height of the legs. I now get less than 0.002” variation across the entire spoilboard.

The suspence is killing me. Please do spill the pin ‘o beans.

I have no altmill so can’t offer much assistance other than asking if you have contacted Sienci. Things that do noisy stuff, and get worse over time do mostly not indicate a good sign and need to be adressed asap.

Let the siencitist assist you. (Don’t forget spill the beans on them, the more the better.)

its directly infront of the motor. so that only leaves the bearing on the screw. or a loose coupling slipping. ive tried to move it by hand to find any slippage. there wasnt any.
