Linux - Default Folder for Load File

I have version 1.6.4 of gsender up and running on my Linux PC running Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7).

When I hit the ‘load file’ option in the Carve tab I am always brought to the following folder: /home/user. All of my gcode files are kept in home/user/Documents/gcode so I have to do a little clicking to get to my .nc files. Not a huge deal, but I would expect gsender to remember the last selected folder when ‘load file’ is selected a second time, but it always brings me back to /home/user

Are there any Linux wizards in the group who might be able to share a workaround such that ‘load file’ always brings me to my desired folder?

Thanks in advance,
Luke

p.s. If it helps - I am using a .desktop file to launch the .AppImage file
```
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Version=1.0
Name=Sienci gSender
Comment=grbl CNC Control Software
Path=/home/luke/Programs
Exec=/home/luke/Programs/gSender-1.6.4-Linux-Intel-64Bit.AppImage --force-device-scale-factor=0.8
Icon=/home/luke/Programs/gSender-icon.png
MimeType=text/x-gcode
Terminal=false
StartupWMClass=gSender
Categories=Engineering;
Keywords=grbl;CNC;gcode;
```

I was thinking the same thing (I move my files into Desktop/cnc). Now you have me curious…

OK less than ideal news @lukewarm58 - I dug into the code, and while I don’t know the framework they are using (Electron) I did find the specific call to open the file picker (dialog.showOpenDialog) and found this note:

This seems to reflect what I see testing gSender on Windows vs Linux - on Windows, it remembers the previous directory, and as you and I both see on Linux it does not.

It seems there might be a workaround in that note, but again I don’t know the framework being used so I would have to test it to see what it does. I might get a chance to do that but probably not super soon.

It is an operating system API limitation as pointed out, unfortunately.

@KGN is it possible to pass the --xdg-portal-required-version=4 switch as an optional argument for the Linux version? I the above implies it would fall back to standard (gtk or kde) dialogs if that version is not available.

I have explored my Mint system and attempted to update any installed xdg components, as well as tried to pass that argument to gSender (but it gets rejected). Again, I’m not familiar with Electron, so I don’t even know if that would work / what behaviour would result.

@KGN and @elbarsal : thank you both for taking the time to reply to my question. It it much appreciated.
