Macro adminstration

Over the years, I’ve gone back and forth with my issues with macro administration. In brief, those issues included:

  • deleting a macro from the macro list did not delete the associated keyboard shortcut from the shortcut list;
  • exporting the macro .json file, editing it and re-importing it resulted in multiple instances of the same macros;
  • changing the name of a macro in the macro list did not change the name of that same macro in the shortcut list;
  • there is no way to to change the name of the a macro in the shortcut list.

Walid and Chris explained that the duplicate issue was resolved in version 1.5.x. Are the other issues in my list of issues also resolved in 1.5.x? I had forgotten about these issues, this morning tried to re-name a macro. I was able to do that in the macro list, but I was not able to either re-name the macro or delete it entirely in the shortcut list.
This is confusing since the name of the macro in the macro list is now different from the name in the shortcut list, but the shortcut still works. The only way that I can see that being the case is if the “re-name” in the macro list is really only a GUI name and the actual name has not been changed in the .json or the rc file. If it were, the shortcut would not be linked to the macro any more.

I am still running 1.4.12.

We’ll take a look at these, thanks for collating.

Do you need the ability to change the shortcut name if the previous point about macro shortcuts updating their names when the macros themselves are updated is addressed or are both means to the same ends?

@KGN Thanks much for replying, Kevin.

I don’t see a need for both. If the name of the macro in the shortcut list would change to match the name in the macros list, that would do the job. As I hinted at in my original post, for all I knew, this was addressed in the 1.5.x series. This is really only an optics thing. The fact that the names are different in the two lists has no effect on the functionning of the macro or the shortcut. The fact that a shortcut cannot be deleted is also not a big deal. I can simply turn it off. As I type this, I’ll have to see if I can re-use the keystrokes for a new macro if the original is turned off. If I cannot, that would be a bit of a nuisance. I’ll report back on that later today.
