Macros disappeared

I booted up my AltMill/gComputer this morning and noticed that my two macros do not show in the Macros window. Just says “No macros”. Had been using them for a couple of days. Any ideas where they went?

Update: It occurred to me to restart the gControl computer to see if that would help. Once gSender booted back up, the macros are now visible. Not sure what restarting did that the initial start didn’t do.

My procedure for shutting down in the evenings is to shutdown the gControl computer, turn off the SLB-EXT controller, then switch off power to the spindle (dedicated switch on the wall by the receptacle that powers the spindle).

My daily startup procedure: I push the silver button on the bottom of the gControl computer to boot it up, switch on the power to the spindle, then switch on the SLB-EXT controller. Connect. Then run the spindle out a few inches in the X and Y, and then “Home” it.

This morning, after my initial start up procedure, the macros were not present. Upon rebooting the gControl computer, they were there again.

[insert “thinking” emoji here]

@mikehoover I don’t have an AltMill or a gControl computer, so that makes me an expert on your problem.
You may want to try disconnecting from gSender and powering off the SLB-ext before you shut down the gControl computer. You should also close Windows before powering off the gControl computer. I don’t really know if the order of disconnecting from gSender and powering off the SLB-ext before shutting down the gControl PC will resolve anything. I do know that powering off a computer with Windows still running is never a good idea.

Update #2: This morning I went through my standard start up procedure described above. The macros were again not there - “No macros”.

So I exited the gSender program and restarted it. The macros appeared in all their glory.

I supposed closing the gSender program before shutting down the gController at the end of the day might solve the mystery.

Update #3: Booted up the system this morning to find “No macros.” :frowning:

I exited gSender, shut the whole thing down and tried again. “No macros.” :frowning:

I did that all again to no avail.

Then, while up and running, I exited gSender and restarted it two different times. Still “No macros.”

Must be something I am missing but I am baffled.

Update #4: Tried a different tactic. I completely powered down the entire system as normal, but decided to power off the gController red rocker power switch. I waited a few minutes then powered the system up.

The macros are there!

I repeated this with the same successful results.

It appears that powering off the red rocker power switch when shutting down for the evening makes the difference.

Cheers!

Good work on homing in on the cause. I like the persistence you show here, and the posting of the solution.

Couldn’t help but followed with interest.

Thanks for the one man show!

Update #5: I have concluded that booting up the spindle and then the SLB-EXT controller before booting the gControl computer will assure the macros are loaded into gSender.
