When using the MK3’s default soft limit for X Axis Travel my router will run into the Y2 Gantry. I tried to set my soft limit to 1277mm (instead of the default 1296mm) which is approximately where the clearance stops. That in turn made the machine soft alarm or stop moving past around 1260 mm from 0. How do I get an accurate soft limit to keep my machine from hitting the Y but also not sacrifice too much cutting area?
@BEAIRD Did you complete the homing cycle yet?
Yes, I tried rehoming and then resetting the max X axis travel distance several times and never got the result I was trying for. For some reason it always seemed to pick a random number close to my chosen number which made me think it was basing that off where the X axis starts and not my zero location.
@BEAIRD let me see if I understand. You can home the machine and when you do, it sets X0Y0 at the rear-left. And then, if you manually jog to the right, you’ll get an alarm before it stops? Or do you get the alarm by doing some other move? Or no alarm? Do you have hard and soft limits enabled, as well as “Limit jog commands”?
Sorry if I’m not being clear I am fairly new to CNC and Gsender.
I can Home the machine and Jog it around with no issue. I got the alarm when trying to surface my spoilboard even though my dimensions were under the limit that I had set (1275mm vs 1277mm).
If I turned off the Hard and Soft alarms it would just keep on going until I hit the Y2. With "Limit Jog Commands) I could only Jog until 1260mm and then it would stop me even though I had set it to 1277mm.
I turned off the Soft Alarm and surfaced the machine with no issue, but moving forward I would like to keep the Soft Alarm on but also have it set at 1277mm so that I do not run my machine into the Y2 Axis.
@BEAIRD If you home the machine and then manually jog as far right as possible, what is the X coordinate in g-sender? You’d probably want to set your machine size (X-axis maximum travel) a bit smaller than that.
