Motor Fault 17 help

I’m trying to bore hole in spoil board and after spindle spins up positions itself to correct location then just starts to adjust Z axis down it throws that error. I am able to home and jog in all axis fine so I assume it is something with the gcode I generated. How do I debug this?

@DavidB Dis you enable check mode on file load? This runs the file without moving the spindle. So you can see where the error might be.

If you are getting Alarm 17 (Alarms List – Sienci Labs), the troubleshooting document points to here: Alarm 10 Warning - Motor Troubleshooting – Sienci Labs (I’m guessing Alarm 10 and 17 are similar enough in troubleshooting steps)

Just tried it again after I had everything off and turned back on again and now it worked?? Why would it just start working after it kept failing on me before?

Now I tried rest of holes and is failing with error 1:

ALARM:1 (Hard limit has been triggered. Machine position is likely lost due to sudden halt. Re-homing is highly recommended.)

Even though I did an “outline” first which worked fine but then when I actually ran it it generated that error after moving about half way towards the front in Y direction.

Then ran it again and worked this time completing 4 more holes but then when returning to home got the hard limit.

@DavidB After power cycling, did you re-home the machine?

Outline does just that, it moves the spindle along the outline. It’s a good test for XY movements but not z.

Using the check file option verifies all axes virtually, including safe height movements.

Why am I missing where the “check file option” is?? :upside_down_face:

and yes I would re-home every time.

@DavidB I believe it is under the Basics section in Options

“Check on file open” or something like that.

It threw another motor fault 17 when I simply jogged Z axis manually down a bit. Cleared the error and it allowed me to jog z axis down without issues then. Should I be concerned about this flaky behavior?

The document I linked to has another link to this: Motor Components Troubleshooting Chart. It references Y1 but I think it’s valid for any motor.

It might be worthwhile to create a ticket with Sienci. Good luck. Troubleshooting intermittent problems is a pain.

Support is sending a new motor. It is also the only motor that makes a lot of weird noises occasionally. I had swapped cables with the X axis for testing as requested by support and it still made weird noises. I then had to show on the SLB-EXT when it did go into alarm 17 that there was these little tiny LEDs that would show which motor is faulting and it also showed the Z axis. Last item I had to do was send pictures of the top of the motor..
