Assembled my machine over the weekend and all works well. However, when I turned it on the next day the spindle makes a whirring sound and it isn’t running. If I raise or lower the Z it stops, but seems to start again. I am going to run the break-in g code file to distribute the grease, but I would assume that only applies when the spindle is running, any thoughts or experiences?
@JimmyHale56 Are you sure it’s the spindle and not the Z stepper motor that doing the sound ? If it stops when you move the spindle, I’d guess it was the stepper. A recording might help.
There are other reports of the steppers making a screeching sound. Of course, there are reports of the spindle making noise too, but only when running.
Hey Jimmy,
I have no spindle thingy so can’t say I have experience with them. The only thing I can do is redirect you to a topic that covers this. There are clips in it with sounds other people noticed with their spindle. One post mentions cold as maybe being a problem. I have a pc that will not start unless I warm the bleeper up with a hair dryer (don’t tell the misses!) 5 minutes on high power and i’m good to go again. Maybe try something simular with yer spindle before breaking it in? If your shop is a freezer like mine..
