Not all Game Controller buttons work after using surfacing tool!

Hi Everyone,

Recenty upgraded to Gsender 1.4.11. Every now and then I like to use the Surfacing Tool to flatten a surface to a specific height. After launching the tool and setting it up I went to start the job like I always do using my Game Controllers ā€˜X’ button. This time nothing happened though. It was just working before this. Didn’t matter if I closed Gsender and restarted it . . . button’s still not working. Then I noticed the ā€˜B’ button that I use for stopping the machine wasn’t working either. I know it has worked before on previous versions without issue but it’s not a tool that I use that often so can’t say how long ago it was.

After several attempts at trying to figure this out I looked in the AppData\Roaming\gSender directory and ended up deleting the four Cache directories then restarted Gsender. All working again! So, I thought maybe something in one of those directories was causing the problem. In the end it was the ā€˜Code Cache’ directory. Tried it on two different systems (Windows 10 and Windows 11) with the same results. So now I know how to fix the problem to get it working again by just deleting this directory. Bit of a hassle and would just like to be able to use the Surfacing tool without having go through all this.

By the way the ā€˜Start’ and ā€˜Stop’ buttons in Gsender were still working. Each of my systems both use GRBL controllers and one of the game controllers is a Logitech F710 on the Windows 10 system and an Xbox on Windows 11.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this if using one of these game controllers?

Im using the Logitech and although its triggering inside gsender (I can see it), it is not relaying the signal to my machine. No movement whatsoever. It used to work before 1.4.11. I’ll prob have to revert back until they figure this crap out.

Is it all buttons that aren’t working or just a few? Do all the functions still work from within Gsender?

You best open a ticked or ā€œtheyā€ wont know there’s crap to figure out.

I’ve noticed that after using the surfacing tool in Gsender the X, Y, and B buttons on my Xbox controller appear to be locked out. This is happening using the latest version 1.4.12. Tried disconnecting then reconnecting the USB data connection but it didn’t do anything. Closed the program, relaunched and homed the machine. As soon as I pressed any of the buttons on the controller a box popped up saying ā€œXbox controller connectedā€

The X, Y and B buttons were again working as usual. I posted this same problem in Questions about a month ago just after updating to version 1.4.11. More details here about how I managed a work around: Not all Game Controller buttons work after using surfacing tool!.

Now that 1.5.1 is released, have you seen any similar behaviour on the new version? We did quite a bit more work to try to better sort out gamepad shortcuts on the new version but if it’s still an issue then we’ll definitely look into it

Hi Chris,
As soon as I got notification that version 1.5.0 had been released I tried the surfacing tool again and all the controller buttons were working as programmed. Was having some difficulty with this version though using the controller sticks and ended up reverting back to UGS. I often switch between the two senders to access some of the different features in both. Have been very impressed with the new Gsender look and its Dark mode option among other things! It was a new adventure relearning where some of the same old features were now hiding . . . It’s all good :slightly_smiling_face:

Today I installed Gsender 1.5.1 and haven’t noticed anything unusual with any of the buttons behavior on either of my Windows 10 or Windows 11 systems. All working as expected! The new changes you made seem to have fixed the issues I was having . . thanks! I’ve never been able to get used to the way Gsender processes the stick inputs though in comparison to UGS. It’s so much smoother moving in UGS and I could never get Gsender to work quite the same way no matter what I tried with the Overide or Threshold Joystick settings.

Thanks again to you and your Team for all the great work you do designing and manufacturing the products you offer! :+1:

Thanks! Great it got sorted for you Lorne

I’ll have to look into what makes UGS jogging feel much better for you than ours. Maybe you can start a new topic in the gSender category about your comparison between them or even showing off a video so we can get a better understanding of what aspects you’d like to see improved :+1:
