Procedure for Zeroing the z Axis

OK, I found out “how” to Zero the Y Axis with the touch probe, but it appears I should not click the Zero button in Gsender after I zero it.

Just now I tried to mill a 0.5mm pocket in some MDF. I used the Z axis touch probe and went to do a test cut. My end mill carried out the test cut but the tip of the endmill was just barely above the surface of my material. Movements in the X and Y axis appeared OK.

I figured it was because I forgot to click the zero button after using the touch probe. However, after clicking Zero the end mill moved at the height of the Z axis probe above my material, so it appears I should NOT zero the Z axis after using the touch probe. It looks more like I have to enter a bogus number a little bit smaller than the measured probe thicknessto force the spindle down a little to make contact with my material.

Is this the correct procedure?

Also, kindly brace yourselves for lots of questions. I was going through the Settings menu in Gsender and encountered many terms I have never seen before in 4 years of using DrufelCNC with my old Genmitsu 3018-MX3.

Thanks in advance

If you are using the auto-zero touch probe than no, you do not hit the zero button (the macro that is auto-zero will do so and then lift the probe to some magic height).
I don’t know what you need to do with other probes.
Did you set up the touch probe in your configuration? I forgot to do that when I did my first probe (gear symbol on top right, then ‘probe’)

@Ken_A @Jens has it right. I’m posting only to ask if you have a typo in your post. You start by saying that you " found out “how” to Zero the Y Axis with the touch probe". Did you mean to say “Z” axis? I am assuming so because the rest of your post deals with Z, not Y.
