Hey, the bristles on my Sienci Altmill dust boot need replacing, I’m based in the UK so not sure I can get the exact ones as I have had difficulty in the past finding them, but wondered if anybody had any good suggestions or alternatives?
I notice the plastic block the bristles are bonded into is 4.2mm wide, so it would need to be something similar to fit into the gap.
Thanks
Hey Harry,
The bristles got discussed recently in this topic about diy dust shoe for altmill.
Might be some usefull intel in this thread.
Thanks, it’s useful but not an option for somebody based in the UK. It’s $80 shipping for a $15 bristle.
@HKingUK You might want to look at something like this on amazon uk
I was very surprised a the lack of response on the original brush material. For North America the Mcmaster-Carr flexible brush is very high quality but will not fit the original sienci
stl file. Opening or closing up the gap in the stl is fairly easy in the free version of fusion 360, using sketches and sweeps. Some of the brush material is not flexible. If you do find something that suits you in the UK, its not hard at all to modify the file and print out a new brush holder.
I uploaded the .f3d file here for the brush holder. Altmill 80mm Dust Shoe - No Windows by don-f - Thingiverse editing the sketch 2 to whatever size you need should cut down the work required to fit just about any brush material you find. This file with my printer calibration fits the 7/32 McMaster brush very tight. It takes a lot of pushing and pulling to get it in place. I made it that way. Being new to all this, I didn’t know if having the brush loose would be worse than tight. Just putting that out there in case someone wants to enlarge it even more before they print.
I don’t know if these will work for you, but here’s a couple of links.
