Water cooling hoses

For those with water cooled spindles, how are you managing to fit everything in your drag chain? Did you upgrade the chain at all?

I’m getting a Jianken JGL 80, so I need to add two water lines and three air lines to my chain

@greg5 Some people purchased bigger drag chains. Others have clips that attach to the drag chain. These clips have holes for the tube. If you go the clip method, you want the tubes to be as close to the centre line of the drag chain. Otherwise, the tubes will bunch up as the drag chain loops.

I run a water cooled spindle on my Altmill. I had no issues running the hose along my X axis chain. The Y axis chain was a bit tight. But I did align everything neatly and have been running it well for a while now.

I also placed a water flow viewing wheel on the return line of the spindle.

Thanks! I ended up designing a custom bracket to ride on top. My Y doesn’t have the room for all the hoses. Hopefully I can transition them inside the X chain.

@greg5 The hoses will very likely bunch up as the drag chain loops. The further away from the drag chain centreline, the more the hump will be. It may or may not be a problem.

@Headshop Observation #1: we’re probably spending way too much time on this . But I enjoy a good design challenge, so…… Observation #2: your current brackets should work just fine if you compensate for the reduced radius as you’re mounting the tube in the mount. Mark the entire length of tubing where each bracket will be when straight. So essentially equidistant marks at length ‘x’. And when you mount the tube in the brackets around the loop, make sure the marks line up with the bracke…

I think @Headshop eventually went with a bigger drag chain.
