The z axis has been making this clicking noise heard early in this video. Havent noticed anything wrong in its movements until tonight. Now its jamming like you hear at the end. Seems to happen at any position. I have loosened and tightened the couplers. Screw seems fine. Tried tightening and loosening backlash. Is the motor toast?
@Clt49er How often have you been lubricating the linear rails? Have you noticed any smalll bearings on the spoilboard?
Havent seen any bearings. I have never oiled the rails in two years. I misinterpreted advice that you shouldnt oil. Ironically enough I ordered oil the other day after watching some maintenance videos. ![]()
Hey Greg,
The one thing I am curious about is, if you decouple the z-motor, does the clicking sound stay?
Identifying where the clicks come from may narow down where the problem is. I feel like the lead is getting caught on the backlash due to some wiggly woggly, but have no clue on the clicking.
@Clt49er Depending on how many miles you have on your machine you MAY have flats spots on the bearings. There is no special lube needed. Regular 3-in-1 oil works just fine. Sienci has a video on this.
The “no lube” refers to the lead screws. Putting oil on them makes them a sawdust magnet and since the anti-backlash nuts are self-lubricating delrin, you don’t need anything on them.
Thanks. I just decoupled. No clicking. Sounds good. Decided to swap out the couplers. Still clicking. Going to swap out the backlash.
Just added some oil. Running smooth now! Thanks guys!
