My Y-Axis does not seem to be working on one side. It only responds to inputs around half the time. I have tried switching the cables into the opposite spots, and this just makes the problem go to the other Y axis. I am wondering if anyone knows where I should direct my efforts when trying to trouble shoot this? I have a suspicion this has something to do with my controller board, but am hoping that I can fix things without having to buy a new one.
Not sure what machine you have but I had same problem with my Altmill. The motor power connector on the SLB had disconnected its self. Probably with some help by me when hooking up my spindle. Check your wiring and all connections.
When the machine is idle can you manually turn the screw shaft on either the left or right Y axis? If so, that motor is not getting power. At least that was my problem.
When playing the game of elimination, you need to have a checklist. And check things that work. The elements you need to check are controller, cable, and steppermotor of the initial failing axis.
When you switched out the cables -I take you did this on the controller side- you eliminated the stepper from the list.
Since you have a known good cable, you can switch out cables on the stepper side. If the fault migrates, your cable is faulty, if not, your conroller is.
Sounds like no power from the controller board. Did you reseat the “y” axis power fittings on the controller board? Maybe swap the connection on the board.
