Z axis diving too deep

This project got ruined. It suddenly went past the .10” expected depth and then ripped through the design. The bit was still secured tightly in the collet.

I think I know the cause. I goofed shortly before. Mid carve, I stopped the router before pausing gsender. :person_facepalming:

Machine was jammed but after jogging a bit it seemed fine. I resumed and this issue happened after a couple minutes into carving.

What did I possibly break? The z backlash?

@Clt49er It 's unlikely, but possible, that you broke that anti-backlash nut. It’s not difficult to check it out. It’s more likely that you lost Z0 when you dragged the stopped router through the material. Did you verify that Z0 was still where you originally set it?

Yes. It definitely lost its z zero. It was about .15” lower than 0.

@Clt49er That makes sense. You should check the Z lead screw anti-backlash, but it’s likely that it’s fine. Too bad about the project.
