Z-axis drift or inconsistency?

I experienced inconsistencies or drifting in my Z axis today on my Altmill MK1 running gSender 1.51. One pocket was cut deeper than another by 0.04” and the Profile cutouts increased from beginning to end by 0.07”. The 1/8” endmill is tight in the collet and did not slip and if it would slip it would seem it would decrease in depth rather than increase especially since I used ramps. Also, I set the Z0 position manually with paper and when I rechecked at the end of my run it was off by +0.110. I saw on an earlier post that checking the 150-152 for microsteps solved a similar problem but I cannot find how to get to firmware in the new 1.51 version and searching for microsteps. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Is there any particular reason you are still running 1.5.1? There have been a number of bug fixes and the current version is 1.5.3.

I don’t know if that is the issue in your case but I would suggest upgrading if possible and it just might fix your issue.

Re your comment “if it would slip it would seem it would decrease in depth rather than increase” - that depends on if it was an upcut or downcut endmill. A downcut endmill would decrease the cut depth if it slipped, an upcut bit would increase depth if it slipped.

Also, if you are running a router rather than a spindle, have a look at https://forum.sienci.com/t/cutter-slipping-from-collet/20967/64.
