My system has now decided that it can alter cut depth on a whim it seems. I can no longer trust the machine to complete virtually any project. Pocketing using a 1/4 DC will sometimes suddenly decide to go from 1/8 D.O.C to diving through the project destroying it completely. I’ve upgraded to the SLB and invested in a spindle with virtually no improvement in system performance. Feeds and Speeds are always kept at a more than conservative setting so now at a loss.
Hey Mitch,
You might want to look into the new holding settings introduced to keep axis from losing position during inactivity during jobs. In your case the Z-axis.
Play around with these settings, they might help you with your problem.
If this is not your solutuion or far from the problem, please provide some more info and even your job code for others to look into.
We don’t know your setup beyond you having a slb and an x-brand spindle. Not much to go on when trouble shooting.
Thanks for your reply. I have in fact made several firmware modifications pertinent to the spindle since switching to the SLB. Motors remain energized for holding, dwell for startup, reduced movement speeds to not outpace machines ability to keep pace etc. PwnCnc Spindle is 65mm to reduce weight lifting burden on hardware. I’ve replaced USB cable and will most likely try another dedicated PC to eliminate that from the list. Occurs for no apparent reason, ran two of the same job last night, one failed the other flawless. Would love to know how fast others have been able to achieve reliable outcomes. Can’t afford to sit with my hand over the Stop Button. Z axis will sometimes drop just enough to ruin outcome or simply try to dive through the table. All mechanical connections are good so may simply be posessed I’m afraid.
Thanks again!
