So initially i had this post , but it is now closed.
I have recently got my hands on a FluidNC board, and i did a test with the board, and the problem went away.
So i figured it is the chinese board i use, i will change to the fluidnc board soon.
Now the question is, why would the board not let me select G55 in the software? for exampleā¦
I donāt have a direct answer for this but in reading your original post you mentioned that you were not sure why the firmware could affect something you set in the software. The reason is that most of what gSender does is give commands to and change settings in the firmware. So if the manufacturers of your original board modified something in the firmware it could cause problems with the communication between gSender and the firmware.
Like I said I donāt know if that is the problem but it could be. In any case good luck with the new board!
EDIT: It is strange that it worked with Candle and not gSender, at least to me.
getting some more usage on my cnc got me to a point where, iāve tested gsender edge 5 and the workspace selector works but in gsender 1.4.12 still doesnāt 
Iāll probably close this now since the workspace selector is confirmed to be fixed in the newer 1.5.# versions, which you also confirmed when you mention that it worked for you in Edge 5
