I need some help

Hey fellow CNC’ers, I need help.. I am very new to the cnc world. I’ve put together the machine and I just got to the part where I’m testing all the movements and I got everything to move except my left Y axis.

Would anyone know what can cause that?
Thanks

@Wolfy Welcome to the group, Wolfy.

It will help others to help you if you tell us what machine you have, if it’s a Sienci machine, what controller you have and if you are running gSender, what version you are running.

Of course, sorry bout that. I am running the Longmill with the gSender computer. Everything should be up to date with the software.

@Wolfy That’s a start. :grinning_face:

Are you running the Long Board or the Super Long Board as your controller?

I’m using the super long board. I bought the Longmill MK 2.5 starter kit.

I’m wondering if I tighten something too tight or what.

@Wolfy If yours has the black anti-backlash (AB) nuts, you may have it/them too tight. Back off the adjusting bolt until it is doing nothing. Loosen the two bolts attaching the AB nut to the gantry plate. Run the machine back and forward a few times.

If the left side does not move, check all your wiring connections. If they look good, reverse the two Y leads at the SLB. Does the problem move to the other side?

If, however, loosening the AB nuts allows both sides to move, tighten the two bolts on each that attach it to the plate. Don’t go nuts. This is delrin. Then, try to push each side back and forth. If there is no movement, do nothing. If there is movement, tighten the adjusting bolt on the AB nuts NO MORE THAN ABOUT 1 DEGREE AT A TIME. After each adjustment, check for play again.

Report back, and we can go from there.

Hey there. Finally had some time to come out and try and fix the issues above and I’m sad to report that I cannot even get into gSender now. I purchased the gSender computer from Sienci, and haven’t had any issues with it up until now. Probably only been turned on 3 times so far.

So now the problem is that the gSender program won’t run. I’ve rebooted the computer. I’ve installed all updates available. Tried opening a new tab to run the program and it still just stalls and won’t open. Been at it for a couple hours now so I figured I’d reach out.

Please help! Thanks community!

Hey Wolfy,

Gsender has the tendency to have a slow initial startup when a windows machine has first booted. There have been many topics on the issue.

In this one sienci dev comes in and explains why things are the way they are.

I have read somewhere that excluding gsender in windows defender might help the issue a bit.

Can it be that you need to give gsender a bit more time to start up?
Mine takes a good few minutes too before the screen pops up. Enough time for me to run around and switch on other components of my setup and still having time to spare.

Does giving it a good few minutes help?

(I personaly like the retro startup times. Makes me feel young again)

Hey Eddie, I’ve read about the slow start ups, and I was hoping that was the case. But gSender never started up. Seemed like it was just froze. For hours. Tried restarting both the computer and the SLB multiple times. I’ll try it again after work today.

Is there something I need to try that I’m missing?

Thanks for your time.

@Wolfy Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing gSender? If you simply use the windows uninstall feature, you should not lose any gSender settings. However, just in case, be sure to export your settings from gSender before you uninstall it. Then, you can import the settings back into gSender when it is re-installed.
There is also a further process that you can do when you uninstall gSender and that is to rename the config file that remains. This will definitely mean that you will lose settings.
I want to emphasize that I am not advising you to do any of these things. I am not tech support. These are simply actions that have worked for others on the forum.
Instead, you may want to contact tech support. Keep in mind that today - monday, may 19 is a holiday in Canada.

Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply. It’s a holiday weekend and just got back from out of town. I was itching to get back and work on this issue.

So I took your advice and reached out to tech support and gave them a detailed explanation of what’s going on. They told me to delete .sender_rc file and reopen gSender and then it started to work just fine! Excited to try and start cutting now.

Thanks again for the help. I appreciate the quick responses and feedback.

Much love. Until next time :victory_hand:t2:
